First Baptist Garland offers a full range of choirs for children beginning at age 4 (must be 4 on or before 9/1 of the current year) through fifth grade. These choirs meet every Wednesday evening from 6-7 p.m. except during school holidays. They are staffed by loving volunteers, many of whom have prior experiences teaching public school music. The environment is comfortable, friendly, and above all, one that shows the love of God for all children.
Children's Choirs Enrollment Parties

| During the children’s choir year there are many special activities ranging from informal open house for parents in the preschool 4’s choir at Christmas, a Valentine open house for Kindergarten parents in February, to a full-blown, costumed musical for grades 1-5 at the end of the year or in the summer. Weekly rehearsals are devoted to learning about music notation, playing musical instruments and developing singing skills. Depending on the worship schedule, the children sing in our Sunday morning worship services once in the fall and once in the spring. In addition to these times, they lead in worship for a Sunday evening service as they present their Christmas music. They again lead in worship on a Sunday evening at the end of their choir year. |

Each choir, grades 1-3 spends part of their rehearsal time in small groups with individual attention. The curriculum used for the choirs is based on LifeWay Children's Choir literature which provides many fun learning experiences. Our Choir Directors and Teachers work with the children teaching vocal techniques and skills that develop beautiful singing. |

Children in grades 1-5 participate in a Hymn Memory program in which each grade level learns eight standard hymns of the church. At the end of the year, the children who have completed their work earn an award. The first year award is a Baptist Hymnal with their name engraved in gold. A music medal is presented for the second award. A trophy with their name engraved is the award for the third year. Fourth year children earn a $10 gift certificate to Hobby Lobby. The fifth year award is $15 in gold dollar coins. Those who learn their hymns before the first rehearsal of the New Year earn an extra award, the Fanny Crosby award. This award is also engraved with their name. |
